Donate for ARDS research and receive an original drawing

In March, at the age of thirty, I found myself suddenly ill and on a ventilator fighting for my life for 18 days. I was in the hospital for 21 days, but thankfully I survived. It has been a long and emotional recovery that continues everyday.
I have decided to join the ARDS Foundation team and raise morny for ARDS research. For every donation that is made over $120, I will give the donor an original drawing created specifically for them.
$100 dollars will go towards the ARDS Foundation and $20 will be used for materials and shipping costs.

These drawings will be done on 100% cotton rag paper with pen, pencil, and ink. Send me three words when you make your donation and those words will inspire the creation of your drawing. After donating email me at with three words that I will use to inspire a drawing as a thank you gift.

Brenda

Her words were: happiness, book, sunset
Materials used: pen, ink, graphite, watercolor pencils
The companion piece to this drawing is under construction (starting over) because it was not turning out how I had hoped.

Andrea

materials used: ink, graphite, pen
This is a self portrait of sorts.

Dwight

Dwight's words were: wild, happy, and young.
Materials used: graphite, watercolor pencils, and pen
This was my second attempt at a drawing for Dwight, the first was a giant disaster. I knew that I wanted to draw a mule deer for Dwight, even though that is not what he specifically asked for. I like the way that it turned out, the deer looks like some sort of God of the wild.
I may work on it a little more, but it is done for now. I don't want to overwork it.

Marilyn

Marilyn's words were: song, family, joy
Materials used: graphite, watercolor pencil, ink, pen
I decided to draw the weaver bird because they make such intricate, beautiful nests. Those carefully crafted nests seemed to represent home and family, and the birds were for song.

These recent drawings are not specifically for donors, although they will be for sale at Deep Breath. I plan on working on more drawings for my donors. I hope to have a few more of those finished this coming week. This past weekend I followed my instincts and let the drawings
take me where they needed to go.
Not knowing what the drawing will be or how it will turn out is liberating and interesting. These types of "drawing experiments" inform my more controlled and planned drawings.
